Ford and Cummins
Forgive me if someone has asked or answered this recently but I'm a newer member. I have heard a couple of people say that Ford owns Cummins (the engine people). Does anybody know for sure the correct answer to this??? My first impulse is that it's not true, otherwise why don't they put the Cummins diesel in their own trucks? Also, why would they be selling it to Dodge to put in their trucks? It doesn't make sense that they would spend millions developing the new 6.0 PSD if they already had a proven Cummins 5.9. Anyway, does anybody know???

There is a thread in the Ford vs the Competition where the exact same question was asked. I recommend that you check it out, it was awhile back.

Ford does not own Cummins. That rumor has been going around for years now.

Ford used to own something like .0000000004% in shares years ago, but they have long since been sold.

You can't get anything but a 6.8 Liter V10 and the 6.0 Powerstroke in the F450's and F550's.
In the F650's and F750's you can three different 7.2 Cats, the 6.0, and a cummins.

IF Ford does own Cummins then here would be the reason why they put Cummins into Dodge trucks:
People Love Ford Trucks. People Love Cummins engines. Why not sell both separately instead of altogether? It makes FORD more money that way.
As for the new 6.0 PSD, that is a joint venture with Navistar which Ford DOES own part of.
