Hey guys new to the site. I could use a little help with some spark issues. It's a 1979 F-150 with a 400. I have already replace the ignition module and coil I don't have any power to the positive side of the coil. Just let you guys know I'm not that much of a mechanic I just do my best with a lot of help.
Check your horseshoe ring on the coil for a good connection...along with the wires that go there. The wires on the distributor plate are not brittle or loose?
Battery reads good from + to - ? Connections to solenoid good, clean and snug?
Does she turn over, gets fuel, but has no spark? Is that the jist of the deal?
One thing that will make one invent new words is a faulty "brain box" - or ICM. It's that 5.5" square silver dealie on the left inner fender. They have a habit of going south at the most inopportune times.
If it gets too hot, the engine will croak....but start again after she cools off, and again, and again 'till she's a boat anchor. A parts store should be able to check it out for you....but don't skimp and get El Chinee Cheapo-- get the Motorcraft ICM. Make sure you match the color code on the connections.
All the other connections mentioned earlier are good, yes? Can you look up and find your ballast resistor wire? You have Bible, I presume?
Ok I found it. Broken wire to positive side of the coil. Easy fix but I'm thinking I wouldn't of hat to replace the ICm or the coil. Oh well I guess I'll have an extra ICM.
I could use some imput on blinkers now. I have marker lights and brake lights, but no blinkers or dash lights. The bulbs in the dash and blinkers look fine.
Check your engine to cab grounds, battery to cab grounds and dash grounds for the blinkers, gauge cluster, etc, and the flashers for the hazzard and blinkers. #1157 bulbs good, as well as the pigtails having a good, clean ground and not being corroded?
Fuses ok?

Be sure to pack a 12v test light in your rig....This should had been a "free" fix!
