That fills in the answers to a multitude of questions! I have not gone back to review all that I saw and read, but I think the length of the cable between the batteries -- if I remember correctly -- would be 5.83 feet -- or roughly 70 inches -- not 6.83 feet which would be about 82 inches -- but I could be thinking about something else.
My Excursion has 110K and is in pretty good shape -- I would not use the word pristine but pretty darn good. I weld as a hobby so I am well versed in cleaning things for good contact -- dirt and rust are not my friend!
Thank you for taking the time to walk me through that.
Doug
Good catch! I had a wife sitting over my shoulder waiting on some "honey-do's" and was in a hurry. But 70" and 5.83 feet is what you want...
Jack: TooManyToys. has given us a very nice gift -- no need for expensive cable sets or likely even huge alts, unless you are running a mondo stereo or something....
No -- I have no mega anything electrical -- just a weak alternator (I think) that I am replacing with a 140 Amp -- so these upgrades/corrections are timely indeed. I like things done well -- this seems to me to be something that wasn't done well by the factory. With the help of folks like toomanytoys who also want things done right, we can bring these trucks to an even finer level.
Thanks again. I will ask questions as they come up -- thank you for offering to help out.

You are right on the factory not figuring it out during our run. The minimum Alt size went to 140A in '08 when the 6.4s came out...
Dan,
Thank you for the links to those items. I have just finished ordering them all -- total was just over $100.00. That seems like the best insurance money I have ever spent -- to insure the least risk possible to my FICM for $100.00 is a very good deal -- not to mention easier on my starter, increased life of the batteries, less risk of injector damage (I think) and who knows what else that we are not even aware of (brighter headlights?).
Now it is just a matter of waiting for everything to get here.

Reason: forgot something
Just a quick follow up on that remote oil cooler/filter I put on my truck. I took a 300 mile trip each way over the weekend. I do not know how far you can take this but the EOT stayed almost exactly 100 + the outside temperature. So 78 degrees outside the EOT was 178 plus or minus 1 most of the time. I was not towing anything. I have no idea if it is 20 degrees outside if the EOT would be 120 -- but I can say this weekend from 63 degrees through 83 degrees it was true.
ODD!
