Rusted bench seat

Came across a very rusty bench seat frame, springs, etc. Can this be cleanup up and reused or would it be more effort than it's worth? We don't have a seat at all. Not going down the show quality route. Just want something we can get covered up and make usable.

Thanks!

If it is all there and is still springy, I would think it is usable. If so squirt some of this stuff on it, let it sit and hose it off. Will look like new. Don't get it on concrete or aluminum though.

Yeah, this one was a lot farther along than that one. Beautiful job!

it's a shame you live so far from me. I've got a good Chevy truck bench seat I'd love to get rid of... come get it

Where are you at? I have a stock seat with a decent cover on it...simply swapped it out for a late model seat out of preference...nothing wrong with the seat. My seat is located in central Florida near Ocala and I am always going up to Tallahassee area and Valdosta, GA area, with the occasional foray beyond by a couple hundred miles.

Arizona....

I had to chuckle at your description of 'very rusty' .... around here when someone says very rusty they mean that there are a few metal molecules left and it will crunch up into pieces that you can fold up and the wind will blow it away out of your hand.

That seat frame is pretty decent to me and in about the same condition mine was in.
I'd say get it and put a couple of hours into it cleaning and checking it over. Then do some repairs and painting, get some new padding and a seat cover and it'll look great again. I got my seat cover from Raybuck and was very happy with the quality. Pictures are in my gallery.

Good luck, take care and Merry Christmas.

the original seat in my 51 is in good shape except the drivers side the springs are very weak and sag down a lot,i guess that some where along the way some one must have been on the heavy side and never used the running boards to get in and out of i guess that they just slid in and out, maybe i should take flat ernies seat if no one else does i live in HUDSON, FL

Seat rebuild

I used the original frame of my '50 seat, but replaced the coils with flat springs from a 90's Caravan, then 4" foam and had upholstered after that.

I like the look of the stock seat over later models.

Good luck with whatever you go with.

I would like to see and hear more about that upgrade. Like others have reported. My seat is both rusty and sagging. I would like the nostalgic look and sturdier frame, foam, and springs.
