I just finished this swap and thought I would provide some info on doing it. I sourced a cheap ($100) 2005 2.0 Duratec out of a Focus that I swapped into my daughter's 2006 Mazda Tribute that had a 2.3 Duratec that died. Needed a cheap solution as she is a poor college student. It swapped right in place of the 2.3 and the only thing I had to buy was the serpentine belt that was for the 2.0. It runs great and you hardly notice a difference between the two engines. Really easy swap.
Awesome! So what all did you do to get the engine out. I currently have the CV axles out, most hoses disconnected as well. Did you remove the power steering pump and A/C compressor before lifting the engine out?
I detached the PS pump, AC compressor and removed the alternator. Left the trans in place and lifted the engine straight up. Kind of tight, but it does come out.
hello, i purchased an 03 escape manual with a blown engine, im techy so i can swap another zetec in it. im wondering if the duratec 2.3 or 2.0 will work without headaches? or should i not get cocky and just go back to a zetec?
It would be way more work to swap a D20, D23 or D25 for Z20. I would stick with Zetec 2.0 unless you want to change the wiring harness, ECM and lord knows what else to make the swap work.
