I have a buddies 2011 6.2 with 60k on it here and it sounds like maybe something in the timing chain seriously wrong, or it could have possibly have a broken valve spring even. This truck has has a slight rattle/tick for about 20k, but now it is really noisy and not driveably.
Has anybody had or heard of issues like this on this engine?
No real common problems , it could be a lot of different things. Why didn't he have it looked at when it was under warranty? Or at least buy a extended warranty just in case.
It didn't start making noise till is was just out of warranty. He never said anything about a extended warranty. Can you just add the extended warranty when the factory runs out?
I did some searches any didn't really find anybody that has had problems with this engine, it seems to have a good reputation. I'll update this thread with the results of what the problem was. I'm figuring the first place to look the the timing chain area.
Yes you can add it anytime before if runs out, I'm not sure how long you can go after out of time or mileage. I bought one not because of the motor or transmission but because of all the electronics and power stuff.
I had to stop by the dealer to pick up some parts today, so as I'm walking out I thought I'd ask one of the service writers what the warranty was on this truck. Turns out it still is under the powertrain warranty (5yr 60k) plus he has a extended warranty on it, and the owner didn't even know. So it looks like the dealer will get it. I'll let you guys know what the outcome is.
