Bronco random stalling won't start 5.8 1995

As I have used this site a lot in the last few weeks, I felt the need to give back even if the problem already has a thread. I have a 95 Bronco, 5.8.

About 6 months ago I was headed to work and it just stalled at a traffic light. Started right back up. Couple days later it did it again at the same light. Then I noticed it sometimes was having a hard time starting. Lots of cranking.

fast forward to about 3 months ago. Sept 15 2015, The problem was getting more often so I changed the fuel filer. Problem didn't go away. I think its important to describe the problem more in detail at this point as it has gotten worse.

Truck dies while driving, No warning, no hesitation, normally in the first ten minutes of driving but, not all the time. Sometimes it will just pick right back up and go, sometimes I can just drop it in neutral and starts back up, Sometimes I have to pull over and wait a minute and it starts and 2 times now I have killed the battery trying to get it restarted.

I changed both battery post connectors as they were a little corroded and the problem didn't happen again until exactly 1 week later....And it didn't stall it just cut out and picked back up. I already had a IAC valve so after that issue I changed it.

Since, the problem seems to have turned into more of a not starting problem and less of a stalling problem as it technically hasn't stalled while driving since I redid the battery post connectors. Just hard to get started, most times it was after running into a store or something quick where the truck wasn't parked for long until 5 days ago. 12-15-15, Truck was parked for 3 hours, and its cold up here in Michigan and went to go start it and it fired up for maybe 1 second then died and wouldn't start. Gave a shot of staring fluid and nothing, Pulled a plug and no spark, Truck sat for 48 hours. Also had to charge battery. 12-17-15 morning it fired up without the plug.

12-18-15 I went and bought new plugs, wires, and a completely brand new duralast distributor. Total was $151 out the door from autozone. Pretty sure plugs and wires were original. Installed it all 12-19-15 I immediately noticed truck is more responsive so far, fires up no problem but I am not confident the problem is fixed yet as time will tell.

I will update this thread if problem reappears. I took a gamble by changing the dizzy with all the online reading I read about similar cases as the PIP in the dizzy seems to be the culprit of majority of this problem. Dizzy was $90 at Autozone but, could of got a reman dizzy for $60 but, would of had to come back.

Also I think its important to point out that I can hear the fuel pump pressurizing always when it wouldn't start and fuel pump was replaced about 18 months ago because it wouldn't start and I couldn't hear it.

One thing I noticed which could be some type of rev, limitor is that in Park when I try to hold the RPM's at like 2 it flutters. Won't hold still on 2 but more like 2 seconds on 2 then a drop to 1 3/4 then back to 2

I ask that unless your symptoms and motor are exactly the same that you don't hijack this thread which is the biggest problem I have seen with the threads I have read.

Steve , you can read codes on your Bronco, if no code reader, auto zone advance, etc have code readers (take it there). I sure hope your problem is solved but remember at faults it stores codes giving us some clues to what problems exist (sometimes). Good luck TR

Distributor is failing, rebuild with all new replacement parts.
I should read the whole post before commenting.
I see that a new distributor fixed the stalling issue, I had the same problem with my 1990.
A hole lot of troubleshooting later, I rebuilt the distributor.
Problem then was the fuel pump, but that's another story.
Love them broncos.

I had same issues with 2 Bronco II and an F-350. Was worse when warm. When cool the pick up or on the newer gas engines, the Hall Effect Sensor works as it should but with age sometimes the coil starts to open and no spark. What really upset me was the 359 was in the shop and the service manager told me it was fine so I made them close the hood we did the paper work I paid for it and walked back and it had quit and would not start so back at it, the pick up was bad

Read this:

1983 Ford Bronco TSBs & FSAs (Recalls) for '83-96 Broncos & F150s picture | SuperMotors.net

It was not my computer. My '95 5.8L starts with the SPOUT jumper disconnected. Try disconnecting the SPOUT connector on yours. If it starts, then it is likely the wiring which fails under the loom near the SPOUT jumper. The TSB is attached as a pdf.

Also start at post #24 here. rla2005 and I posted some schematics and I posted some pictures of the actual SPOUT jumper for you to look for.

In 2001 or 2002 Ford sent me a class action law suit containing info TFI IV, distributor mounted module. It included many models 1983-1995.It stated Ford knew of the high failure rate of these distributors, Yes they were over heating, hot weather and under heavy loads, towing etc.....I had a problem with my 1985 f 150,(4.9) same issue in the early 1990s.Left is sitting for 30 min s and would restart .Culprit was the ignition module. Presently the truck has over 650000 miles and left me stranded to tow twice, Once, for the oil pump quit working and it actually turned the distributor out of phase to save the engine. Second was in 2013 the upper sprocket for the timing belt wore bald So after a rebuilt (first time)600000plus and 31 years later is been a reliable ride TR

140 miles over 6 days. No issues. If it makes it another week with no issues I will be convinced the issue is resolved. It runs better then it ever did since I owned it

And it wasn't throwing any codes

Just wanted to post a update and maybe a final update. Still no problems. Distributor appears to have been the issue.
