I have a weird starting problem on my 2001 F250 5.4 108K miles.
It will start normal for a week or so and then all of a sudden 1 day starts and then stalls right away. After that I have to keep trying to start it to the point it almost kills or kills the battery. Then all of a sudden it will start again.
I had a COP go bad replaced that and then the plug striped out. I brought it to a local ford dealer and they installed a new Time Cert and when I got it back I still had a light skip which is the reason I replaced the coil. You notice the skip more in the highway cruising gear when driving around.
I am getting ready to have all the plugs changed could that be a reason for this headache? Could it be flooding out when it stalls like that?
I had the codes read from auto zone and they keep saying it is pulling P1000 code. I have had it read 3 times now over 1 to 2 months and keeps pulling that code.
No idea what to do first any help appreciated.
Mine did the same thing, I was leaning towards the IAC, but then it got worse and one day it wouldn't start after a few tries, I turned the key to on and listened for the fuel pump to prime, it was silent. Banged on the tank with a mallet a few times and tried again, pump was humming after a few tries. Changed the fuel pump and all has been good since.
Listen for the fuel pump next time it won't start, that could be your problem.
