You have a good looking system based on the pics from your build thread. I was surprised you thought it was too quiet IIRC. Looks like it would roar!
I'm used to open headers in dirt track racing lol! But getting the exhaust out behind the bumper makes the in cab sound much more bearable. But if your behind the truck it is very loud!
I just had my exhaust installed plus parts for $570 dynomax 12" race bullet mufflers, magnaflow 16"3.5" tips, 2.5" pipe, pace setter LT headers 3" collector, true dual with H-pipe. Great sound nice low rumble, tips stick out 4" behind bumper. No drone at all, muscle car type idle and mice low growl under acceleration.
The price above would not include the LT headers, correct ?
One muffler shop quoted me 400 for a single system out the back from the headers in steel 700 in stainless ....
Here's a related question. Expanding your pipes - using a local shop, do you find these guys are willing to do this for you, obviously they would rather have the whole job of bending and installing whatever that takes. When I was younger had this done at times. Those hydraulic expanders are pretty slick, but seems to me a little hard to control, from what I remember, not enough to too much a very little time slice ..... am I correct they cannot reduce only setup for expanding ?
I'm a fan of straight through mufflers as well. Like previously said, pipe diameter and exit location will have quite an effect on tone and in-cab resonance. I've got a 460 with banks headers (2.5 Y pipe) to 3" single, with a straight through "powerstick" muffler that exits behind passenger rear wheel. Sounds great outside the truck and can only hear it inside if I get it on it.
I discovered powersticks a while back when rebuilding a corvette. Solid product, great value and they have a true 3" Inside diameter muffler.
