F-150 diesel in a year from now?

Ford F-150 Spotted Testing Diesel Engine » AutoGuide.com News

Not bad at all.

This Ford F-150 might have a Land Rover turbodiesel V6

The engine produces a respectable 254 horsepower and a healthy 443 pound-feet of torque, and is tipped to be mated to the same ten-speed automatic transmission as the new Raptor
(Ram has 240hp, 420lb-ft of torque).

More importantly, when fitted into the lightweight F150 and paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission, this configuration shouldn’t have any problems surpassing the Ram’s 29 mpg highway figure.

Interesting, if I didn't see the exhaust tip I wouldn't have believed it myself.

2017 would be too soon IMHO, possible for a 2018MY debut.

I held out the longest time for a diesel F150, go figure I order a 2016 and this news comes out.

Why would you want a modern diesel in an F150? Nothing about diesel is cheap and the gas models outperform the chassis of the truck. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Have had diesels since 1998. Worked for John Deere from 1996-2006. My dad was a diesel mechanic. Diesel is in my blood man!

I just like diesels. I know I'll be more than happy with my new 5.0, but I'm sure to miss having a diesel pickup.

So much about what we do as human beings has to do with preference, and I think this is one of them. I'll admit, I fell in love with the Ram EcoDiesel that I test drove before buying my F150. The idea of mid-20's for fuel economy sounds great even when you're paying more for fuel.

I'm the first to let prospective diesel buyers of the downsides to them that I learned with my two previous Powerstroke trucks. But part of me would still like another one!

Doesn't surprise me. When I read that Nissan and Toyota are both getting a small Cummins diesel for their wannabe pick-ups, and GM is offering a diesel in the Colorado/Canyon, not to mention Dodge's 3.0 Eco-Diesel in the 1500; I figured Ford would jump on that bandwagon sooner or later. Monkey see, monkey do... I'd be interested but I'd probably still go with the Ecoboost. I have a feeling this won't be a cheap option. Probably another $5-6000 over the 3.5 EB is my estimate based on market trends.

A 7,300-lb pickup truck with nearly identical power and torque to the 6.0L Powerstroke and 12,000+ lbs of towing capacity most certainly isn't a "wannabe".

I'd expect it to fall in line with the Ram EcoDiesel, which is commanding a $3,120 over their Hemi V8.

I would more expect to find a small 4 cylinder diesel in a hybrid configuration in that test mule. Ford has already started they will have a hybrid pickup by 2020.

The stated specs have the 4.4l diesel closer to the old 7.3 Powerstroke than the 6.0.

Oh gotcha.

Earlier today I was watching several different videos on the Ecodiesel and the failed exhaust cam sprockets.

As for the Titan, it's a nice engine surrounded by an ugly truck. The Ram has a nice Hemi, decent ecodiesel and of course the Cummins, but again those engines are surrounded by ugly lame sheetmetal.

Goes back to personal preferences I guess. My truck can look like something you'd see on Loony Toons for all I care; for me it's all about value, performance, and functionality. Looks certainly haven't had me buying Fords for the last twelve years; I've always preferred GM's styling.
