Tow mirrors issues

Have an issue with my right side mirror not extending sometimes. Sometimes it would extend normally, sometimes it would not start until giving it a little assistance, then it would extend and retract normally for awhile.

Kind of a pain, my wife is not strong enough to give it a push to start extending and I seldom remember to give it a slight pull to start after hooking up the trailer.

But I wasn't ready to go sit in a dealer and deal with the approval process for mirrors. I have the extended service contract.

So 4 weeks ago the mirrors stopped folding in, that is something I use more then the power extend retract.

Two extended contract items ands I made the appointment. Of course when I showed up yesterday the mirror extended and retracted as it should.

I guess the tech did find an issue and 12 pictures later and a couple of emails between Ford and the dealer the mirror is ordered
They are in stock at the parts hub, so my guess is the pricey ($1352 MSRP) mirror failing are more common then we hear if they are kept in stock.

Glad they are taking care of it. I love the Ford mirrors.

I like the mirrors as well, the best compared to any other truck I have had.

Just wished they had an 8.5 foot trailer option. Extended another inch or so would allow me a clear site line to the end of my toy hailer.

That would be nice. 8.5 wide, 45 feet long. I wish they went out a bit more...

Well the Ram mirrors flip up and stick out a little further and they are still not as nice as the Fords. I just can't get used to them.

Same problem with mine. One of them doesnt want to extend anymore. I wish there was a way to get inside them to do some service(i.e lube the gear). Luckily they still fold good, I usually give the hinges a quick shot of silicone to keep things moving.

This is why I like Ford.....if the worst of our issues are the tow mirrors then we're doing pretty good. Ford is, actually. I've been doing Fords for ten years now and I won't go back to the other American alternative.

Yep, just have to give up a bit of your time for the dealer to work through the process which is fine by me with the cost of these things. A good dealer puts the effort into the process so that Ford will hopefully approve it. I've had my driver mirror replaced twice under warranty. I know some here have reported bad experiences with dealers and mirrors but mine haven't been.

Got my new mirror and mirror switch panel replaced and the FSA 14E03 PCM reprogram (emissions related)

I'm guessing the PCM thing resets the the module as the first thing I noticed was the truck shifting a bit harsh on downshifts.

$107.00 and out the door. The repair is about halfway to the cost of the extended service contract. But, had I not had the contract I doubt I would have replaced the mirror.

There was a thread on here telling how to disassemble and repair along with pics. Don't remember who posted it.
