Hello all. I just bought a 99 f-350 SD crew cab. It came with what appears to be the trailer mirrors. They seem to be extended out, how do you get them in? I tried pushing, but that didn't work. Also, the driver's side arm seems to be loose, it moves in at highway speeds. Where is the adjustment on it? Sorry for the stupid questions.
There is any easy way to figure out if the mirror is fully extended. If it is, you should see little white lines on the bottom arm, each one indicating a different extension length. This makes it easier when making sure that both mirrors are extended out the same distance.
If you don't see the lines, then the mirrors are all the way in. If they are in, then usually a quick, firm tug on the mirror, should extend it out. And a quick firm shove should push it back in.
The mirrors did not retract on that model year. I believe they started in 2000 or 2001. At any rate, they look like they are designed to retract but they do not. Many people, including myself have upgraded to the newer style mirror. You can find them for sale all day long on EBay or pay a mint at the dealer. I waited until one of them was damaged and then had a good excuse to spend the $$$. Ford seems to have a tough time making up their mind on what they want these mirrors to accomplish and here is the evolution for your mirrors:
* Power TT mirrors - not retractable
* Power TT mirrors - retractable
* Power TT mirrors - retractable with forward and backward breakaway, adjustable blind spot lower mirror
* Power TT mirrors - retractable with forward and backward breakaway, adjustable blind spot lower mirror, heated upper mirror and signal markers (coming soon)
