When the truck set's for a couple weeks the tranny leaks a preety good size spot on the floor, as long as its driven every couple days not 1 drop. I know the is converter drain back but what seal or O-ring is causing this? THANKS.
Filler tube "O" ring. Speedo "O" ring. Manual shaft seal. Replace those and don't worry about drain back.
On the converter "in circuit" there is the drain-back valve, and in the converter "out circuit" there is a check valve.
The purpose of the drain-back valve is simply to prevent the converter fluid from draining through the front lubrication system when the engine is stopped.
The converter check valve has two functions. It maintains at least 10 psi in the converter when the engine is operating and prevents the converter from draining through the cooler whne the engine stops.
(Info from the Ford C6 Automatic Transmission Training Handbook)
Both check valves are located in the Stator Support Assy.
If the converter drains back, for a 12" Assy it will loose about 3qts or half of its capacity.
The Converter Pressure Relief Valve is located in the Main Control.
