Hood Movement

Hi Guys,

I'm hoping someone might have dealt with this before. I've got a '68 F100, and I'm getting started on the bodywork. The problem is that the sheet metal around the middle of the hood depresses in the moment you touch it. It seems like it isn't attached to the under structure at all and sits with an air gap between the exterior and interior panels. What do I do to fix this?

Thanks!!

The inner structure is bent inward from being dented in. The outer skin separated and popped back out. These panels are joined with adhesive. It will be difficult to straighten the inner structure back out. My hood has the same issue, but it's junk anyway. It blew open at some point, smacked the roof and pancaked the hood.
You may be able to reglue it with panel adhesive, but then the hood will be dented in. Just about need a new hood to fix it.

I agree with spdcat72.

How about using some rubber shims or build up body molding tape in the places that you can get to.

If the gap is where the underside support is, drill a hole, weld a nut and thread a smooth tipped bolt in, just tight enough to keep the hood out.

Orrrrrrrrr......add a hood scoop

I didn't even think about that being bent. I might take a rubber mallet to it just to see what happens. If that doesn't work I'll go about shimming it and using some new adhesive. What would you use for adhesive on that?

You should be able to tell if it's bent. the space between the steel frame and hood should be the same all over. anywhere the gap is wider, something's bent.

Cut some 1/8 or 3/16 thick strips and bond them to the bottom of the hood with panel bond.
