Steering issue

I have a loose, binding, metal on metal sound on my steering wheel shaft. I have removed the steering wheel, replaced the clockspring, because when I removed wheel clockspring was in pieces and I thought that might be the issue. Guess not, because I'm still having problem. Any sugestions? other than having to remove or replace the whole steering column

It is probably the upper bearing in the steering shaft. I had a F150 that went bad and that thing was like driving a death machine. I had to eat spinach before driving it. Finally had a shop replace the shaft with one from a junkyard and the OD button had a short which caused the transmission to fail. The owner of the shop did replace the steering shaft and the transmission on his dime without any arguments. After all that, it drove like a new one until I sold it.

Thanks for the reply Dimnd1, thats exactly what it feels like, like a bearing is gone or a bushing or something. I'll dig a bit deeper and see if I can figure it out. Thanks again
