Will a newer style bed liner fit into an 8' bed of a 79 Ford Truck? I don't believe they have changed any of the dimensions but I just wanted to check before I buy a new plastic bed liner. Thanks!!!
They fit "~OK". They lay in the bed right but the curvatures at the top of the bed don't match up quite right unless they are made for that particular year.
i dont recommend using plastic drop in bed liners. water gets trapped between the liner and the bed and they promote rust BIG TIME. if you want to protect the bed floor. you can get a thick rubber mat in any truck mag for around $80.
most bed liners are screwed or bolted in. making it a pain in the butt to take in and out. with a mat if it rains or you wash the truck. you can just pull it out until the floor dries. then put it back in. so how would it rust any worse then a bed liner?
If you didn't take it out and let it dry EVERY time it rains...
You get very little water in under a bedliner and it runs out quickly. With a mat there would be lots of water under it every time it rains. There is lots of room for air movement under a liner but not much under a mat.
I just took a bedliner out of my truck that had been in 8 years and there was no rust from the bedliner. There were a few spots from b4 the bedliner was put in tho, they still had the gray primer that I had put on them.
well i guess it depends on where you live in the country. when i was in NJ the bed on my truck rusted right off the frame. and when i pulled the bed liner out there was green mold under it. i owned the truck for 6 years and it had the liner in it when i bought it. when i got another bed i just put the mat in and never had the problem again.
How about Hurrciliner(I think thats hows it spelled) You can get it at any parts store for around $80 bucks. It takes a little time to prep the bed and put it on but its really worth it. It looks great and stops rust. I did it all through a jeep i owned and im getting ready to go it in my truck.
We've got an 82' Chevy that has had a rubber bed mat in it for years. No rust, great protection. It's tough to move around heavy loads though. Sometimes that's a bad thing. If anything slides, it's usually the whole mat. In fact we've had three different trucks with a bed mat. Not a single problem with any of them.
My F-150 had a drop in bedliner when I got it. According to the PO it had been in for about 2 years. The bed floor on my truck is all chewed up and rusted from the drop in. I made good use of the liner by depositing it in the local land fill. I am not a fan of drop-ins whatsoever.
When I get the bed floor straight and rust free it's getting a spray in liner.
Keep in mind that the newer trucks incorporate better factory rust protection than the older trucks, hence, the better likelihood that you won't see any rust on the newer beds with bedliners in them...
But man! the spray-in liners (Rhino, etc.) are SPENDY. $500+ for my 1974 shortbed.
