Today I finally had a day off to try and replace the wiper motor with no success. I had the toughest time trying to take the cowl off. If I had a helper I would have took the hood off no problem but it was just me, myself, and I. Is there a way to remove the cowl without taking the hood off? Also notice that water leaks in side the cab looks like underneath the dash on both the driver and passenger side.
it can be done with the hood on ithe just takes some time. i did mine after a fresh paint job. just remove both wiper arms and be sure to remove all the cowl screws. the bottom windshield trim might have to come off just take your time then have at that wiper motor...

Keep in mind that the original Hood seal (where the hood meets the cowl when the hood is closed) plays a huge part in preventing water intervention as well as the cowl seal on the cowl itself. "They mate upon hood closure to prevent water intrusion". The firewall has a few openings in it to service steering, wiring,...etc. if those grommets are not soft and sealing properly, water leak down from the lack of proper seals at the hood and cowl will allow "leakdown" into the floorpan. Water takes the path of least resistance as with any liquid and it will always follow gravity, guided into the floor pan by way of the firewall. It's a good idea to take a look at the windshield seal also as it can cause the same issues with leakdown.

I didn't have to remove the trim, I just slid the cowl out from under the trim. This would be a scary process with a new or good paint job though. I think I would try to protect it with masking tape here and there. I opened the hood up and down slightly to give the clearance I needed.
