Hood Cowl Panel Removal

Hello all, im back with a question. I hope everyone has had a great Memorial Day Weekend. About this cowl panel. Im replacing my windshield wiper motor. It sounds like a small outboard when you run it and it slips. None of manuals have a direct procedure for removing the cowl panel. Ive got the two end screws and the center screws that hold the weatherstripping off. Ive disconnected the windshield washer nozzle tube. Before I break something, the book shows the antenna as being fairly simple. Has anyone does this? Are there any gotchas I might want to know? Also, when you take it out, you just pull forward and up? Im not sure how the back connects up under the windshield, and I dont want to grrr it up or bang the hood by pulling harder than I have to. Thanks in advance,
Chris

I removed mine about 1 year ago don't really remember all the screws but either take off the hood or tape up the cowl real good because you will hit the hood corners and scratch the cowl if you don't. It is trickey to get the cowl in and out without scratching it. I scratched mine taking it out. Good Luck

I have got a 88 F150 and just removed my cowl today. There are some tabs on the rear of the cowl that will catch on the chrome molding, my truck is not a show truck by any means and although I was carefull, I was not real concerned about scratches.

If you are you do need to take off the hood or remove the windshield chrome to make it easier, there are also the screws on the top of the cowl. Have fun.

I found loosening the hood bolts (after marking the hinge outline in Sharpie) helped keep the scratches down. You probably have all the screws out. To get the antenna out, unsnap the chrome plate on top (pull up with small screwdriver) & it will reveal the hold-down screws. You'll get enough play to get access to the back side of the wiper motor.

FINALLY someone I can HELP!!! 1996 F-150, use shapie to mark hood on cowl, loosten bolts and slide hood forward. pop off chrome on antenna and remove 4 screws and pul antenna up and unhook cable. removce screws from top of cowl and front edge, remove squiter hose bracket slide cowl forward. I had alot of the sealing goop was dryed up and was trapping water instead of sealing so I pulled it out.

jcs1966 reminded me about the dried up foam under the cowl. I bought foam insulating tape at Home Depot that's about 1/2" wide & about as thick. I double & tripled the height by layering it & stuck it under the cowl to replace the dried out old foam.
