1999 2WD Leveling Kit

I am interested in a 2" to 3" kit that would include new springs as the method for raising the truck. I am not interested in the spring spacer system. Is there a kit for what I am looking for?

Not that I know of, but if you have a local spring shop, they can build you a set that you want.

If there's not one local, there are online spring shops which can do the same thing.

For certain, you need to plan on addressing your front shocks in terms of their travel distance with a lifted nose.

Also, be prepared to possibly need several 1/4" carrier bearing shims. I initially installed only one shim to resolve some vibration in my drive line after leveling the front end, but had a tiny bit of residual vibration which I left unaddressed. After just having to replace my u-joints and another carrier bearing (some 80+K miles later), I installed a second shim and the truck drives "butter smooth" now.

I have to say that I have yet to understand why the shims are even necessary in my situation because the entire lifting effort in the front end does nothing but lift the body up higher off the frame position. Since all the steering components, engine, tranny, and rear end are all attached to the frame, and none of that changed, I can't understand why shimming the carrier bearing is either required or helpful.

At the same time, I obviously do not understand all the dynamics in play because the two shims certainly resolved the vibration issues for me. At the same time, though, perhaps all of my vibrations were coming from worn parts that are now all replaced. Perhaps I should experiment now again and remove both shims to see if any vibration comes back??

Chris, you've been dealing with some of the same leveling kit issues I have (shock travel limitations, shock extensions, etc.)... what do you think about this shimming effort?

I am surprised that adding a 2" spacer to the front springs can affect driveline angle?

I have heard that the spacer kits can get sloppy with poor fit?

Like I said, I'm still questioning the true need for the shims as well, and I believe I'm going to remove them over Christmas just to verify.

As for fit on the leveling kit, everything remains very tight at this point on mine. No signs of movement in any plane.

No shimming required on my truck, but the entire reason I did the leveling kit is because after I wore out my front springs, the replacement springs from Ford still had my front end sagging too much.

My leveling kit didn't brick the nose back up to within spec even though they were supposedly the same code as my stock ones. While I'm not level, it did raise it enough to give me some shock travel problems. But that may just be because I drive my truck a little harder and over some rougher roads than the rest of the folks. (I've had to replace (2) stock aluminum wheels now since I apparently punished them enough to get them slightly out of round where the tire guy said you can't balance these)

The only driveline issues I've had were a sloppy carrier and a worn u-joint.
