in case anyone does a search to find out what to expect (as I did) my truck according to NYS DMV site says my 8560lb deisel truck needs an emmissions test. took it to my local shop of 20 years and they put it on the machine and got the message to tell me to take it to an "official" deisel inspection station. I googled that and wound up back on DMV site and found a calculator that lets you put in your county, and a list of "official" deisel inspection stations comes up....and I copy paste the 10 listed. I called the first one and they gave me an appt. bring the truck in, they do the inspection and charge me the 37 bucks. The copy of the inspection they gave me had a note on it indicating my DMV records are in error and to contact DMV to get the weight fixed. They did not do an emmissions test which is not required for vehicles weigthing less than 8500lbs. so now...with this "official" note, need to find some truck scales and see if I can get wieght tickets for 8499. If I can, then off to DMV i'll go.

 

It just makes me happy that I live in the northern plains, where we don't have to put up with a lot of this foolishness.

 

Is it actual weight or is it vehicle weight rating?

 

for the emissions criteria its unlaiden weight .....
