Something else I didn't know.

According to this brochure, the 40 COE still used the 39 nose

The nose changed in '42 and stayed the same through the '47 model.

Yeah, that much I knew but I falsely assumed it changed in 40 since they resemble the 40-41 so much.

Actually the COE grill changed in '41. The grill bars were changed from stainless in '41 to cream painted steel in '42 thru '47. I always wanted to find a '41 grill for my '47. The '41 also had stainless door handles, a chrome bumper and chrome emblems on the cowl vent doors. The '42-'47 bumper was black, the door handles and emblems were painted cream like the grill bars.

Someone should put together a brief "year ID' thread with the differences.

Isn't '40 the only year the emblem is ahead of the vent doors?

I kinda prefer the non-stainless grilles- seems more in line with the nature of the trucks.

BTW- I put a waterfall grille on my '40 (it came with none); no stainless.
