Tailgate options

Hi Everyone, playing around with a couple scenarios...wanted to see if anyone has ever either 1: relocated the open handle to the outside of the tailgate, or 2: swapped for an F150 tailgate (for anyone running soft top / open year-round)?

There is no key cylinder in the tailgate (a PO removal, no idea why), and I haven't yet diagnosed why the dashboard switch doesn't move the window (makes a little noise but nothing doing), so I'm mulling options.

Easy enough to find replacement cylinders/keys for the doors, but I haven't found a replacement cylinder&key for the tailgate...anyone else had to replace these??

Bumping...has anyone had to replace the key cylinder in the tailgate? Or happen to know if we can just use an extra lock cylinder for, say, the front doors?

We are replacing the tailgate skin on my sons 89. We have taken everything out of the rusted tailgate and the lock cylinder comes out fairly easily.

Can you tell if it's the same lock mechanism as what's in the door? I need to buy a replacement, but I haven't seen a distinct tailgate lock sold online...
