I'm wanting to get a 1911 clone and saw one made by Century Arms. They offer models with a 5" barrel (Chief) and a 4.25" barrel (Scout). For a cheaper pistol ($425 from a local shop) they feel good and seem like decent quality. The dealer says they are made by Rock Island?Anyone have any experience with either of these? Things to look for or avoid with the 1911 platform? They are both .45s btw.
I shot an Armscorp Rock Island 1911 today. It felt more comfortable in my hands than my Glock 19. Not apples to apples being 9mm vs 45 and composite vs steel. This was my first time shooting a 1911. Very comfortable to shoot.
Thanks for the input. I think my choices will be between the Rock Island and the Century Arms pistols, but I'll have to do some more research and read some reviews. A guy I know has both a Rock Island and a Taurus .45 and he says the RI will easily outshoot the Taurus.

If you do pick up an RI or Centry Arms PLEASE let us know your thoughts!
What is the purchase process where you are at? permits, background checks, etc.
Hawaiʻi has a long purchase procedure that puts off many people from firearm ownership.
I do like the heft of full-size 1911, but I just for kicks (or lack off) I am saving for a 9mm full-size poly IWI Jericho. I have heard that the full-size steel 9mm
has little recoil and muzzle rise, but I donʻt know if that justifies the higher cost over the poly frame. I hope the poly frame has similar firing characteristics.
Maybe if this world gets crazier this state will allow open carry too.
Missouri apparently has some of the most relaxed laws in the nation, at least that's what our wonderful president tells me. I can buy a gun from Joe Blow I met on the street with no paperwork or background checks. If I buy from a dealer, they run the background check. Pretty straightforward for a law abiding citizen. I think I'll go with the Rock Island, but probably won't actually buy it till close to April. I will report back then after I get it.
