Halfway done with the stud replacement I figured since everyone said that the driver side was the most difficult because of wiring and steering shaft, I'd do it first. there were 4 already broken, 3 I broke taking them out, and 3 came out just fine. I skipped the drilling and easy out attempt to go straight to the big guns and I used the welder to get them all out. worked like a charm, and got them all replaced with the stainless ones
Broken studs 10 shiny new studs
Nice work, and yes, the passenger side should be even easier!
Did you leave the shock mount on the frame? I pulled mine off for this job for the extra room.
Well the drivers side was the easy side more about that in my past about getting the sledge hammer out, but while I had the inner fender out I noticed that my new valve cover gasket on the passenger side is leaking again, and the old one on the drivers side is leaking too. I guess I will be replacing them since they look super easy to get to with the inner fender out .
is there anything else I should do while the inner fenders are out?
On a positive note , Amazon is awesome and they are sending me a new set of valve cover gaskets 2 day shipping for free! just have to send the old ones back, and they gave me a label to do that too! I guess now I know what I'm doing next weekend. ..
Dipstick Tube!!!! I just saw it in the photo. Mine snapped off where yours is rusted. Apparently you need the manifold off or to tilt the engine off of the mount to replace it.
Well, after 5 days of fighting, cussing, bleeding, and bitter anger, I managed to call the last two studs enough names to where they finally wanted to get out of the head. then replaced the studs that connect the manifold to the y pipe. I don't ever want to do this again, but I'm very glad I didn't pay someone to do it. I now know why they charge a grand to do this job!
plus,my valve cover gaskets came in today, so now I have one now project lined up.
