i am going to take a look at an 86 b2.what are some things to look for ? ive heard that the auto trannys were a bit suspect on these models.it has a 2.9 and push button transfer case.from what i have heard about the truck it is clean in and out and is owned by a mechanic. he is asking around 800.thanks for any info.
thanks for the welcome ken. i guess i should list some of the ford trucks i own and have owned : current : 97' f150 supercab 4x4 5.4. ,1976 gran torino squire wagon 460 c6.(not a truck but built like one) past : 58' f 100 sb step side 223 six., 69 ranchero 302, 70 f 100 360 auto. 70' f100 300 six 3spd. column shift. plus many other ford vehicles.
I would say if it was well taken care of it could last you a long time... my Bronco II has 328,200 miles right now. Some stuff replaced are a couple of air conditioning parts, and new (about 2-2.5 years old) automatic transmission (probably the most updated A4LD at the time, which I just read today is possibly a 5-speed auto, but I gotta check it out...), newer alternator (not the old type with the exposed fan, it's one of those you'd find in newer Ford vehicles like what Mustangs have, the ones with the "holey" plastic outer casing). The power steering fluid leaks, but the pump still works great. The A/C compressor leaks, but is still pretty cool, and still works, but the fan just doesn't blow that hard on high (and I hear a buzzing noise on high, maybe something's stuck in the fan? Someone lemme know how to fix this...) and I have a SMALL coolant leak. No milky oil, I don't believe I use any oil either (for such a high mileage engine, wow...) and everything's cool! Oh yeah, and the original gas and temp gauges don't work right, so an aftermarket temp gauge, along with an oil pressure gauge it didn't have (because of the tach), but still no gas gauge. All's cool though, and gets me everywhere I've needed. So far the farthest I've driven in one day in it is about 150 miles tops, and no problems all day, so it's been a good car to meh!
thank for the encouraging post knuckle. i guess the main thing to watch out for in these small trucks is not to over heat them, and to maintain the auto trans well. i will be looking at the bronco in a day or two-i will post back later on my findings .thanks !
hey guys tanks for the info. turns out the guy sold the bronco before i could make him an offer. 700 dollars spread over 7 months ! i would have given the guy cash. it also turned out to be a 5 speed ! better luck next time.
news post : i may have a second chance to buy this vehichle. turns out the guy who bought it thinks that it should have been in perfect shape for $700. he is a bit picky aparently. so will see what happens. my other opertunity for a purchase is a 1985 mercedes 300 turbo deisel in good shape for $ 500.00. what should i do ?
