1990 emission failure
Just got a 1990 2.9L Ranger and failed the emission test for high HC (hydrocarbons) during the idle phase. Read a few tips that indicate there is a missing in the idle but would love some advice on getting the HC lower. The rating was just a few points above the maximum. One site recommended changing the oil might do it. Any other quick fixes before I take it back to have it tested again? Again, thanks for your expertise.

I've heard of some people dumping a pint or two of straight ethyl alcohol into the gas tank before getting tested in order to cut down on emissions. Don't know if it works or not.
