I have a 1997 ranger. The fuel gauge reads empty ( goes to 1/4 with key off). I checked that the gauge was good, then went ahead and replaced the pump/sender assy. I put key on, still reads empty. I took sender out again, plugged in harness with the sender out of the tank, the gauge reads where I put the float like it should. I put it back in the tank and re-connect, it reads empty! Help! It seems like the tank is grounded or something.
I can't see anything wrong with it. Any help appreciated. Thanks
Yeah, I've had the same problem with my 94 since I bought. just figured it was the sending unit. I'm gonna check my ground this weeken. I just couldn't see either dropping the tank or lifting the bed to change the pump just for the luxury of a guage. i guess i'm lazy.
well, I moslty travel Highway miles - about 180m/d - Just on the safe side, I fill her up between 220 and 250. Usually I don'tput more than 11 gallons in it.
I'm sure I'm not getting the gas mileage I should be, but I don't have the money to make sure EVERYTHING is in 100% working order.
I bought this 97 for a good price with the guage not working and a leaking oilpan thinking "I can fix that, no problem"...........that was before I found out engine pull for the oil leak and tank pull for the sender!!!
