You can go this way may not be any cheaper . This is a 4/sp top loader but you can do a 3 /sp top loader too. Ford provided the transmissions for the Jeep Cherokee from 76 to 79 with the ratios for Jeep. The 3 / sp would need top from the Jeep T-150 and the 4 /sp would need the T-176. I have a top for the 3/sp that i planed to put together but just have not taken the time to do it. I have read some place that a few Ford trucks in the 80s came with one like that, but have never seen one. The hard part is finding a good T-150 top and you have to take some of your transmission apart to convert it over. Works best in the old Ford cars where the guys want a shifter that looks original but with a more modern stronger transmission. Just another idea. JIM
I'd be more worried about the dash I haven't messed with one but I'm sure it's a short transmission
I have a t150 in my jeep if you need measurements off of that
Ford made the t 150 for jeep , all most the same as the ford 3 speed top loader. They filled it with the gear ratios that jeep needed and left off the ford tail shaft housing . Then they made the modifications in the main case to bolt up to the 4x4 transfer case. I had a friend that had one in a 51 ford truck behind a 302 engine. The shift lever might have to be reshaped a little if it hit the dash.
To put the jeep t-150 shifter on the ford top loader is to just remove the side shift forks , plug the holes and bolt it on using the same holes the removable top cover was to. If you have a ford 4 sp top loader you use the jeep t-176 shifter. Means taking the transmission apart to do it .
