Here's the PDF. I promised. Differential Case.pdf The special tools aren't totally necessary, but there is a lot of good info/specs in there. When I purchased the Detroit Truetrac, it came as a kit with new carrier bearings and adjustable shim packs. This made the installation process much easier since I wasn't R&I'ng the old bearings.

Wow! This is fantastic! Did the Truetrac come with everything you need? Obviously not the special tools, but everything else? Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it!

I purchased it from an Ebay seller several years ago. It came with the 2 new side bearings & races, shim packs (adjustable multi piece shims vs the stock thick ones), the Truetrac unit, and a cover gasket (didn't use). After some looking now, I don't see the seller or anyone else that offers the complete kit. You can, however, purchase a Carrier Bearing Install kit and the Truetrac separately. The prices are substantially higher now than when I got mine. I got the entire kit for less or about the same price as the just the differential.

That's some good information. I'd give you some rep but it looks like I need to spread more around elsewhere first.

Long story short.

I bought a low mile LSD from a guy in Tennessee (old thread). 400 bucks.

After New Holland freight quote was 203.00 it turned into over a grand for shipping.

It's under the truck, chatters like the clutches are shot no matter how many times I change the CORRECT FRICTION MODIFIER and lube.

Clay at Riff Raff is a sponsor here and sells the complete kit ad he's a phone call away for issues.

Shoulda woulda coulda!!!

Go with the true trac from a trusted source.

Denny

Another thumbs up for the Truetrac as opposed to other LSD options- the Detroit Locker is great/strong but noisy, and air or electric lockers are expensive and obviously, need air or 'lectricity plumbed also.
The Truetrac is reliable, no clutches to wear out, no switches to engage; just seamless! Works when you need it and you don't have to think about it.

x2 for that. Mine has the LSD but it is very old and feels like an open diff. It works great in the dirt but not so much on the pavement (even when it's wet).

The swap is also something can be done by a axle shop in your area possibly fairly cheap.

I used to pay $150 for a gear swap + parts etc. I am not even starting that job to save $150.

What type of information do I need to make sure I get the right LSD? I'm looking at the Truetrac and want to purchase in the near future.

This is the one to look for. Eaton 915A550 Detroit Truetrac 10.5" 35 Spline Differential Here's one from Summit Racing. Eaton Detroit Truetrac Differential Steel 915A550 Ford 10 25" 35 Spline | eBay NOTE: The 10.25" and 10.5" use the same carrier. Also, here is the carrier bearing and shim kit; similar to the one I used. 10.5 inch Timken Carrier Bearing & Shim Kit-Broncograveyard.com Together, they are about $40 more than what I paid. Not a bad price.

I like using these super shim kits:

Ford 10 25" Sterling 10 5" Rearend Carrier Shims RMS Super Shim Kit New | eBay

Makes the process easier as the design keeps the thin shims together.

That's what I'm planning on installing too!

Even with the USPS shipping cost, this super shim kit is almost $6 cheaper.
Ford 10.25/10.5 Carrier Super Shims-Broncograveyard.com
My install kit included the super shims.

Just curious, but how do you know that's the one I need? I saw a bunch of different options when I looked for axle and splines, how do you know that's the correct one? Is there something I'm missing (very likely) that narrows it down?
