94 E-150 5.8 weird acceleration vibration
On a drive on the freeway today, I noticed that if I push the gas pedal down fairly firmly, the van will shudder a bit as it accelerate, sort of like the feeling if you go from a smooth freeway to a little rougher road, or those rumble strips on the side of the freeway. If I ease the pedal down and accelerate a bit slower, it doesn't do that. If I take my foot off the gas, the shuddering stops immediately. So, in order to go from say, 60 to 75, I have to nurse the pedal to avoid the shaking. It happens at all speeds and is most noticable in the higher gears.
I am pretty sure it is engine related because it happens only after the engine is warmed up. I wonder if it is some kind of lugging issue because if I drop it down a gear, the shudder goes away or when the engine speed "catches up" to the road speed, it goes away. Motor mounts? I have ruled out anything to do with the suspension because it only happens on acceleration in higher gears....but at any speed. Thanks!!
