Adding Retractable step to running board

Hi, new to this great informative site. Just purchased a 2013 F350 6.7l Platinum. Love the truck and wondering if anybody has ideas on adding a supplemental step to get into the truck. It has the running boards but I need a step that is a bit lower 4-6" that I could possibly mount to bottom of running boards. I did find a retractable bed step by AMP that looks like it would work as it swings down and then give it a nudge and it goes back up. I am not worried about crushing it on rocks etc, as I don't go off road. Anybody done something like this or additional ideas? Thanks

Years ago I did this on an E250 to supplement the running board on a church van and it worked out well.

Besides the AMP steps which are well-liked by many, there are a variety of options in RV steps too (which is what I used).

It's old information from my 2006, but I did the same thing on my 2011. I ended up building a mounting frame from angle iron purchased at Lowe's and using existing holes in the frame. The steps have been on the two trucks since 2007 and the only problem I've had was a burned out motor on one side.

I have a Kwikee Step Model 39 ordered from pplmotorhomes.com that will arrive on Monday. My truck is a King Ranch and we needed to put on a step for the wife, but she wouldn't give up the KR running boards. I think what I'll have to do is mount a 1/4 aluminum plate to the brackets that support the running board and then mount the step to the plate.

This step drops 6.88 inches. My running boards sit at 16 inches from ground to top of the boards. So the step will be about 8 inches below the top of the board which will be just about halfway.

Here's where I ordered the step from:

Here's the measurements for the step:
