I have a 2008 F-250 and even with the stock running boards my mom has a hard time getting in and out. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of sidesteps that would be useful and would fit under/behind the running board. I was looking at the kodiak sidewinders but it didn't say if they would fit with the stock running boards. Thanks in advance for any help.
That's going to be tough. Carr's steps come with a pretty universal bracket (one bracket fits a couple dozen applications in any case) which you might be able to mount to the stock boards and get the steps level. N-Fabb had some double step nerf bars.
Getting engineered double steps would be the better way to go, as the further away from the body/mount the step is, the more torque it will apply to the fasteners. The stock boards/bars are bolted to the body and moving the step outward more might strip/warp the metal.
I have a Kwikee Step Model 39 ordered from pplmotorhomes.com that will arrive on Monday. My truck is a King Ranch and we needed to put on a step for the wife, but she wouldn't give up the KR running boards. I think what I'll have to do is mount a 1/4 aluminum plate to the brackets that support the running board and then mount the step to the plate.
This step drops 6.88 inches. My running boards sit at 16 inches from ground to top of the boards. So the step will be about 8 inches below the top of the board which will be just about halfway.
