That's a good review. I'll seriously consider having my door panels and instrument/radio bezels hydro-dipped. But, does the cerakote give a satin or shiny finish?

I looked up one website that sells DIY kits and they say you can specify gloss or matte clear coat. This might be a very nice solution for XLS bezel cloning if one can find a brushed silver film and keep the brush marks straight with the bezel.

Yes, that might be a really good solution. Hopefully someone will find the right brushed silver and let us know. And, I might want to have the door panels done that way - I'm going with electric windows and locks, so have the metal panels.

Depends on what you want. They have gloss, satin, and matte clear coats.

Here's a door switch panel done in brushed Aluminium

That's awesome! I don't really know what the XLS trim looked like, but that may be close enough.

Anyone have good pics?

I don't believe the XLS ever had any door trim besides the chrome ring. I have never seen that in any picture including brochures. I think Kyle/First Today made some by painting rosewood panels but they were not original. I have also never seen XLS with power windows/locks. Gary, did you find useable power window door trims yet?

akcowboy - Thanks, but I'm looking for closeups so I can tell what the grain, if any, looks like on XLS trim. I may have pictures of it, but don't know that I do.

Ford F834 - Yes, I remember Kyle saying he'd done that, and that's what got me to thinking about it. But, I'm not trying for originality, although I do want to get close on the bezels. So, dipping the power window/door lock panels like the bezels would see reasonable. After all, the theme of the truck is "As Ford would have done it", so that fits if an XLS truck had power windows or door locks.

Gary, Chris has some XLS trim. Perhaps he can provide close-ups!

Last I knew it was buried in his garage. But, I'll ping him nonetheless.

I already did a while back... He found some pictures in an email he sent to you some time ago. Here are the detail shots of the finish:

And then from nickmish's FB page here is a zoomed look at his bezel:

I thought Chris had done something like that for me, but didn't find them. Anyway, thanks! So, it really is a brushed aluminum, but not as heavily-brushed as akcowboy's picture shows. Hopefully we can find the right texture to use.

Thanks again!

Only the first one is the "dull silver" presumably the weave pattern. The second is woodgrain (burl wood) with name plate holes the third is woodgrain (burl wood) without nameplate holes like you find in the base level trucks and Bronco. The one you are looking for should be the E5TZ-15044D70-H.
