Alright... I found Ron's thread on installing a factory DIN radio into a 80/84 rosewood bezel. This is probably the cleanest install I have seen. He did a great job.

If you have a 85-86 radio, here is how I did mine.

Do any of you have or know someone with a 85-86 mesh weave bezel with a radio and clock for sale!

The catch is the clock option. The mesh bezels were on base model trucks and almost all of them are without clock. I know I have a silver mesh 85/86 DIN radio bezel in nice shape, but I am almost positive it is a non-clock bezel. That said, if you can't find one that has it, the clock holes can be cut out. It requires some patience and fine hand work to make the holes look factory but it can be done.

Edit: my parts are in storage. I will probably be making a trip there late this week and I will check what I have. Do you need the instrument bezel also or only radio?

Thank you, I have a nice instrument bezel I just need a nice radio bezel. I knew I would have a heck of a time finding a standard radio bezel with a clock!

I'll see what mine is... I'm pretty sure it's non-clock though. I have a couple other weave bezels but I'm thinking they were all **** and shaft or cut 80/84 style. Watch eBay and don't forget to include Bronco's in your search.

I do like the mesh bezels and have considered them for Dad's truck. Not sure what to do for door trim though. Ford didn't put any door trim with mesh bezels - right?

I have never seen any door trim with the weave bezels. I think that fabric door panels in a silver grey cloth would would be a good compliment though. One thing I like about the weave bezels is durability. The surface does not deteriorate like the wood grain films. Only problem is I have never seen a diesel weave bezel. I thought about grafting the wait-to-start lamp panel over the packet on a weave bezel but decided I wanted to try replicating the XLS silver finish first.

Edit: I almost forgot... the other thing that swayed me away from the weave trim is the lack of a matching cruise control horn pad. Never made one that I'm aware of.

Good points. XLS would be consistent across the doors, horn pad, and bezels.

Have you looked into hydrodipping the ones you have right now? They can get almost any pattern or texture you can think of.

That's an option I want to explore. But I'm not sure how durable it is, so don't know how long it would last on things that get touched frequently, like interior door trim. Do you know?

It's super durable. I had a rifle stock and thermos done by a local guy. He sprays a clear coat of cerakote over top for extra protection. I've had the thermos for 4 years bouncing around boats and trucks with no wear or damage (to the dip at least).

The rifle stock doesn't get used as hard, but still looks as good as the day I picked it up.

The best story I heard was when the owner first got started he dipped his sons aluminium t-ball bat in a wood grain pattern for kicks and giggles. After a full season of use the bat had a bunch more dents, but the pattern held up 100%. Good enough for me.
