some have an issue with valves due to improper heat treatment.

Not a big percentage.

How many miles on the truck? Where are you buying it from? Any chance you can find out the history?

I had some EGR issues, 2 of them about 3 years ago. Pretty good since then. Mine's a Job 1 build.

No problems with mine (other than the rear end bounce, not motor related).

No out of ordinary problems with mine either. Just the typical wear/tear items. Except that most of mine have all come in the last 5K miles. Luckily before my 5yr/100K engine warranty expired, they were all covered yet. (EGR cooler, primary system water pump, turbo lube line leak, and primary radiator back at 60K miles). None of these are specific to early builds that I am aware of.

the only real reported issue with the really early 2011s built in 2010 were exhaust valve related and grenading the engine. That has since been fixed. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can pinpoint when that was resolved.

I'm at almost 170k o my 2011, no major issues. Turbo just went out, I replaced it with the SPD 2014 drop in + tune. EGR/DPF all have been removed.

Would love to learn more about the exhaust valve issues though.

I'm planning on doing all 8 glow plugs since there have been reports of the tips breaking off and destroying the motor.
