Hey guys... Just picked up a 35 ft. travel trailer. It weighs 8500 lbs or so. I am pulling it with my 03 7.3 f350 LB crewcab. I have a little money leftover from my purchase and would love to put it into my truck. I already did airbags and shocks. What can I do to the drivetrain to enhance my towing ability. I have heard talk about a shift kit and maybe a rear end gear change. What do you think?

Reason: Additional information
spend the $10.50 and get the trailer weight..... trailer Empty....
later truck/trailer loaded.
very useful information...
my 30 foot Coachmen.. tag states 7,500 pounds.. it scales empty at 8,300 pounds.
Some of the best advice you can get.
Knowing your weights is very important. Your "towing tackle" is designed for a specific weight range. If you have load bars for weight distributing, they usually have a specific tongue weight range for which they were designed.
I only found out after weighing my trailer that I was out of range with my load bars. I purchased the correct spec parts and immediately enjoyed much better towing behavior.
What gears do you currently have? Is the truck stock except for the airbags and shocks you mentioned? What is the maintenance history on the truck?
My suggestions would be as follows:
1. Make sure all maintenance is up to date, including any worn suspension bushings etc.
2. Get some good gauges so that you know what is going on with the truck. Trans temp, coolant temp, EGT and oil pressure is what I installed in mine.
3. x2 on the trans cooler.
4. Then look at powertrain mods if you feel low on power. Tuner etc.
