This is from a 1989 F-350 7.3L

This past weekend I drained the tranny fluid and refilled. I did not do a full flush, I have never worked on this tranny before so I just wanted to open it up and take a look at it. I'm planning on possibly doing a more thorough "flush" later and see how the fluid looks after driving it for a bit.

When I drained it, it was a reddish brown and the magnets did have a little bit of metal, not sure when it was looked at last. I replaced the gasket and cleaned the pan and wiped the mounting surfaces clean. I applied some sealant around the surface between the pan and the gasket.

I took it for a quick drive and it did start shifting more smoothly. I parked it with a tarp under it to see if there were any leaks. The next morning there was a spot about 6 inches across and after letting it sit all night there was a very slow drip, one drop probably every 10 seconds. Everywhere else is still clean, just not this one spot that appears to be seeping and running about 3 inches down to the lowest point.

Any ideas? Also, is there something that is supposed to go in those machined screw holes above the arrow and the one to the right?

 

Probably the pan gasket. As fast as it's leaking it should be pretty easy to see. Clean it up with brake cleaner then compressed air if you have it, then watch to see where it comes from.
