Trans pan gasket
I had an earlier thread on gettin trans pan gasket replaced on 95 f150 I got a couple weeks ago.(leaking fluid). I heard the horror stories about putting new fluid in old tranny. My tranny guy agreed with y'all that the idea of new fluid damaging old tranny was a myth. I followed your advise and had tranny gaset, filter, and fluid changed. My tranny man found that the leak was due to a rubber gasket. For any that may not know...NEVER USE A RUBBER TRANS PAN GASKET. Anybody else ever feel like kickin the previous owner of thier truck right in the teeth?

I feel like going back and giving the PO a good thrashing just about every time I work on my truck. The most recent thing was the tranny pan was leaking and the cause turned out to be the cork gasket that was on it. After spending way too long with a scraper getting the cork off I replaced it with a rubber one and it hasn't given me any trouble since. No, I'm not making this up.

u know a wire wheel for a small grinder will take off the gasket residue and clean the surface nicely without gouging into it like a scraper can... a lot faster too
but thats just me.... as for gaskets rubber is better if u have the thing apart alot because cork is like a 1 time thing
