'Get better mileage' CHIP ??
Some jack leg told me that I could put some CHIP in my new to me truck, 6.0L Super Duty Diesel, '05. Said it'd increase my mileage by 5 mpg. Was he pulling my leg? If possible, what's this chip cost (ballpark) and how long does it take to install? Thanks for advice. Or is it just a scam?
Oh, and 2) at 118,000 miles would it help a diesel engine (or does it make any difference) to start using fully synthetic oil?

its not a chip....its a resistor inside a plastic connector. there are different tatics on how these work. one type runs within the engine temp circuit. it changes the readings of the engine temp sensor to have the computer process the engine as "at normal temp"....as it result...it bleeds off some fuel from the fuel air mixture. engine runs hotter due to the leaner AFR. another drawback is sometimes hard to start during cold months because the computer thinks the engine is "at normal temp" and does not richen the fuel normally needed for cold weather starts.

So you guys are saying 'no go'. The guy that wanted me to put it in is the owner of a garage. I was/am suspicious of him from the beginning. He kinda reminds me of a cross btw Charles Manson and Ted Bundy and his eyes are dead and never smiles. He may be a Toyota owner.

There is no chip for a 6.0. You re-program the computers for better performance. Read through the Tech Folder on 6.0 Forum for a good start. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ch-folder.html
