Installing Mishimoto T-Stat

Installing Mishimoto T-Stat
good Morning,
I am installing a new Mishimoto thermostat in my 2004 Ford Excursion 6.0 PSD and I have an issue I need a second opinion on.
My Mishimoto t-stat has a very long pin sticking out of the top, almost twice as long as the stock t-stat. I recall something in another thread about a year ago which says it is alright to trim the extra off the Mishimoto to make it fit properly in the stock housing. Can anybody confirm this?
Thank you,
Jeff

That wasn't the fix, a new or the correct housing that fits the extra length or as a last resort, drilling the housing to accommodate the extra length.
And boiling the housing AND tstat together to make sure it worked as some of the older housing actually worked was a good check to see if issues arise.

Drop the stat in some hot water (doesn't have to be boiling), push the pin in and install in the housing. There are some early housings that it wouldn't work with. If your 2004 still has the original housing you may want to spring for a new one. I think the last two digits of the part number on the housing you want is 91.

Ok, sounds great. I went to local parts store and purchased a new factory thermostat and I was surprised to see it had a new housing with it. I tried the Mish-200 but it would not fit correctly. I will just order the Mishimoto housing and let it go from there.
When I took off the old housing I found the lower spring and base plate sitting on the bottom of the intake/water pump/ block. I was rather surprised the engine was running as cool as it was since it appears the water opening was very restricted.

It's highly recommended to put the tstat in the housing you plan to use and put it in hot water... to verify proper operation. That should show a correct seated and open position. Put mine on the stove and boiled it. I would try that before buying another housing, you may have a correct one to use now.
