engine swap

I contacted a salvage yard today about buying a 300 for my 86 f150, they said they had plenty but i could only get a 81 -86, they said that anything newer that 86 would not fit but they had newer ones in stock. What is the difference? I was wanting the newest i could find. They also had a couple of 351 for the same money but i wasnt sure if it would bolt to my 4 spd transmission? Im wanting to buy a motor to start building it for a future swap and i really like the idea of a 351. If anyone has any links to someone that had done this.

The 351W will bolt to your tranny, Just Frame Mounts is all ya lacking. The newer I6's will fit into your truck, Just You'll need To upgrade to a Newer EFI system. The newer EFI sytems can be installed in your truck If ya take your time. The Best one to get that info from is Steve83 or Look his his FTE users gallery He has the info listed on adding the newer EFI system to your truck. Just IMO EFI is the way to go. I've got a 302EFI in my 86 Soon to be a 95 351W EFI in it. I'll never look back to the Carbs.

engine swap

Oo
An excelolent engine swap for your vehicle is a 1985-6 Mustang roller engine. These two years used carbs rather than fuel injection. The horsepower and torque is the same as newer engines. Wiring is a snap. I put this engine in my 1984 f-150 years ago. It has served me very well and is quite spunky. The truck was used as a work truck for years. Now as the elder of my (ha) fleet, it is going thru a complete restoration. Was looking for a project and thought "why buy anything, restore brown boy (my 1984)". Years ago I had a 1977 F-150 that I put a 351W in. Was never happy with the performance. Kind of a dog. The 302 roller engine is strong. Place some headers, a good filter and good ignition and you are pushing 250hp. Hope this give you food for thought.

I did get some helpful info on the web site. I owned a 86 Mustang GT with the roller motor and EFI. I believe i would have to get an 85 for the carb. I didnt really give it much thought b4 your post because of concerns with my truck being 4wd. Was yours? I liked the motor and never had any problems with it.
