This is partly directed at wreckinball.. I love the look of the 92-96 body style, but don't want to deal with the (assumed) headache of swapping the cab. Will the hood/fenders/grill work with the 86 cab? Is the cab really that hard to change over?
In a perfect world i would take the 92-96 cab and leave the 86 hood, fenders and grill.
As an aside, will the newer interior parts (seats and such) bolt into my 86 cab?
I have some missing parts in the dash, but nothing really wrong with any of the sheet metal. I do need a new bed though... maybe i'll put a 79 front end on...? I need to either put some kind of herculiner type stuff or carpet on the floor... and the bench seat needs updated....
you can bolt up a 92-97 front clip onto a 80-86 chassis. There are minor differences that you will have to modify for. the biggest one is the bottom of the fender to the base of the cab. you will need to add a 90* bracket for everything to bolt up. the upper fender to cab mounting is not a problem. A 92-97 radiator support is also critical. without it nothing will bolt up to the front. you will also need to use the lighting plugs for the 92-97. this is also a very good time to do the headlight relay mod if you haven't already done so. If you have, grafting a 92-97 harness is a no-brainer.
lastly, the front bumper is going to need the most amount of fab work. you will need to make a bracket to fit onto the 80-86 frame so the 92-97 bumper will work.
when you're don'e you'll have one of the best interiors grafted to the best looking nose.
Right above the gauges, i'm missing the little plastic indicators for the turn signals, the high beams, 4x4 light.... also the diesel info center is missing... I can deal with that but i really want the parts for the high beam light, etc. because the indicator blinds me at night...
Seat defenentlly needs attention lol, Looks like the more luxurious ones with the small head rests?
I think that black plastic piece of the dash can be replaced where all the light indicators are. (not sure though) Dash pad looks good, nice and shinny, no cracks or faded.
I'd look in scrap yards, or if you can't find something, LMC trucks has 'em.
I've Herculinered a couple of truck cabs and have been pretty happy with the results.
It is NOWHERE near as good as a REAL spray-in bed liner but WAY cheaper.
I'd much rather have either type of flooring than carpeting in a truck.

I was going to do this after seeing some that was setup after a few coats on a buddys truck. Our truck wasn't taken care of and it stinks. Years of sludge from firewall drainage, etc.
Just curious, does the typical cab have any drainage holes on the floor?
I want to use the bedliner stuff on my clean floors after I yank everything apart and leave it just like that, with a couple floor mats for the front.
When it comes time to clean I can park the truck at an angle and run the hose and scrub it down lightly, then let most of the water drain on its own. If the floors have no holes I was thinking of drilling my own and placing grommets in them while not in use for draining.
Therer are quite a few drain holes but they have rubber plugs in them that you have to remove.
There are also drain holes in the troughs under the door sill plates. They will be completely full of dirt/mud.
