I'm finishing up a lot of work on my 1968 F100 and my AOD conversion. This is what I have and done,
68 F100 with 351w and an AOD from a 1991 tbird 5.0. The AOD was good and working as I drove it first.
When I first started the F100 the test port gauge was reading 60 psi. So I put on a helper spring at the tranny TV cable to bring the lever all the way back. That worked but now it stays on 0 psi, even in gear and nuetral.
Also the tranny engages in all gears and even nuetral the tires are spinning, I have the truck lifted in back. And when I shift to Park it grinds. What could be the problem?
I also used the Lokar adjustable shift linkage. The tbird shifter was on the floor. I wanted to keep my column shift. So with the Lokar kit you replace the shifter arm with the Lokar arm and connect an adjustable arm to your column. Installed pretty good.
So right now my main problem is the tranny engaging in all gears and tires rotating, even Nuetral but not Park. Also grinding when shifting to Park.
Ok I appreciate any help and I will continue my Google search. Thanks again the site is great,
Kenny
If your truck is lifted off the ground and the rear wheels are turning while you try to put the transmission in park, the parking pawl of the transmission is going to grind. The wheels need to be at a complete stand still before putting the transmission in park.
Thanks for the replies. I'm really concerned about the grinding when putting back in Park. I do have the drive shaft on also. I wanted to jack up rear to see what would happen. It was just tripping me out when I would put in Nuetral the wheels would start turning. I would press on the brake and release and it would spin again.
I appreciate all the write ups and responses. I just haven't found anything about grinding in Park

I too was alarmed when the same thing happened after I swapped in a Tremec. Set it on the ground and fire it up. There is still a hair of internal drag even in neutral since the TQ rotor and stator are hydraulically acting on each other.
I'm admittedly not up on the AOD's but I do know a bit about the 4R70W's like the truck version has a stronger planetary gear setup which is why I bought one for modifying my wife's 67 Mustang. TCCoA has a lot of great info on AOD/4R70W transmissions: TCCoA Forums
You don't have any problems, you just think you do.
The grinding going into park is because the wheels are moving and the driveshaft is spinning. The parking Pawl (locking pin) is grinding past the cog inside the transmission. You wouldn't try to shift into park when going down the road would you? Same thing....
Every automatic car I've ever seen, Will spin the tires in neutral when it's in the air. It is simply internal drag in the transmission. Automatics are not like manuals in that they do not completely disengage gears, only release pressure on clutch packs/bands.
The TV cable should be at 0 to 5psi at Idle. Full throttle should be full pressure.
