I'm wanting to go with disc brakes on the front maybe the backs too but was wondering if I can't get a hold of a 78-79 front axle is there a way to go about the conversion without the swap?
A guy on a facebook post the other day mentioned the axle and spindles are all the same on 75s and 76s and I can just tear down the 75 stuff to the spindle and install 76 brake/hub parts. Any truth to that?

You're referring to a 4WD, right?
The "guy" is incorrect.... The axles are the same but the spindles are different.... In order to swap to discs, you'll need everything from the knuckles outwards... and swap to later steering links because the tie rod shanks are thicker than your 75. The later steering arms on the knuckles have more "meat".

I have been studying this same idea as a future upgrade and initially struggled myself as to why the knuckles had to be replaced. I finally found the answer and there is a fairly large indented section on the disc brake knuckles to clear the caliper. As already mentioned, the spindle is different as well, but I have yet to find the actual difference.
I have however deduced from various parts sources that 1976-86 and 89-93 hubs are interchangeable and rotors are good from 76-93 if that helps in assembling all of the parts. Can anyone confirm this? If so, are the spindles interchangeable from any of the same years as the hubs? Dents are hard to come by in wrecking yards in my area- too old for the yards to carry and too many of them still on the road since we don't salt our roads out west. 80's on the other hand are a pretty common find.
Someone mentioned the f250's are closed knuckle design and you needs another axle.
As for using newer parts, I've taken newer 90's hubs and they work on my '78, while the spindles didn't. I would venture a guess and say that using the knuckles out from that same 90's truck would have worked, but then it would be a nightmare getting parts if anything went wrong. So I only used the hubs and tossed the spindles.
I can't imagine why a newer f250 dana44 front end couldn't be used to upgrade yours. except it's all twin I beameup so no idea is it'll work knuckles out or not.
edit: too bad you guys are so far down south, I have a set of dana44 f250 knuckles to hub from a '77 sitting on my porch floor waiting to head back into storage. Probably cost at least $100 bucks to ship because of it's weight.
