I have a 1993 ford f 150 inline six fuel injected, do I need to remove the alternator bracket to remove the head and intake manifold
My alternator pivot bolt is seized up, what can I do?
How many bolts are on the bracket to remove it from the head and block?
If the bolt is seized heat and lots of penetrating oil. Spray oil let sit then heat, work the bolt then heat again then oil repeat till loose. Had similar trouble with my watet pump bolt. Took a little while but did get it.
Had a alternator pivot bolt seized up on one of my 460's this summer.
Pulled the bracket as you figured.
No amount of penetrating oil worked, as it wasn't rusty.
Bracket is aluminum.
Alternator is a casting, aluminum, along the entire length of the bolt, not a partial casting with a precision-machined metal sleeve/insert for the bolt to pass through as many mfg.'s use.
There is a casting seam that caused the bore to be offset slightly, and it seems the factory apparently forced the bolt through and it galled.
Mine was the original alternator.
Had to drive the bolt out with a long punch, it wouldn't go all the way and lost the bracket as those ears break off easily. Luckily I had another bracket.
Ran a rat tail file inside the bore of the alternator and was able to reuse it.
