2004 Escape XLT ground wire problem?
Please forgive me - NOT a "car" person, but looking for info because my boyfriend is a scratchin his head over this!
2004 Ford Escape XLT
120,000 miles
maintenance up to date
Over the last 2 months this car has been acting funny - out of nowhere.
When starting it, the RPM's ramp up, to 3 or 4 or sometimes 5 and stays there for a few seconds. While driving it, and actually moving, it's fine. However, sitting idle at a light or stop sign and the car tries to surge forward, like I'm hitting the gas while I'm holding the break. It will do this multiple times at a light. The car will "bog down" and all the gauges will drop to Zero (while idling, in drive) and it will sound like it's trying to die but doesn't actually turn off, then all will go back to normal. A few times the car has died when shifting from drive to reverse. The check engine light is on and is giving the code P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 2. We replaced the O2 sensor in rear, bank 2. The catalytic converter was replaced about 4 years ago with an OEM part. After replacing the O2 sensor, the light went out for a few days, car ran great for a few days, then right back to this. And, I don't know if it's important or not - but when all these problems started, the radio also started acting funny, clicking on and off all on it's own (clock will stay on, but no radio). Sometimes the radio is completely dead all together, then will pop back on. We have replaced the fuse for that, and it's still doing it. The only code the car is giving is the P0430.
Has anyone had experience with this and have suggestions? Love my car!! But, geesh. This is crazy and I'm starting to become concerned I'm going to get stuck somewhere.
Help!
Thanks in advance!!

Your first symptom is of a gummed up Idle Air Control valve. That symptom pops up every year when the weather gets cold and the "gumminess" increases.
Sounds like the radio is trying to die if there are no other associated symptoms.
