So after some reading on here it appears that the buttons on the steering wheel should light up with the lights on. Is this correct? Mine has never done this, and the radio controls don't work either, but the temp controls do, probably related.
It also appears that the 4 wheel drive selector switch should light up. Is this correct, as mine has never done this either, but 4x4 works as it should.
Finally, when in 2 wheel drive should the front driveshafts to each wheel be turning or not?
My EX is a low optioned XLT so I don't have all of the steering wheel buttons, so I'm not much help with that issue. But no, your front axle shafts shouldn't be turning when not in 4X4 and the front hubs are unlocked. They will sometimes have just enough drag in the needle bearings inside the unit bearing hubs to spin when the tires turn though. The best way to ensure that your front hubs are really unlocking is to set them to AUTO (assuming stock auto hubs here....) with the dash switch set to 2WD and then reach behind the tire and see if you can rotate each axle shaft inside the knuckles. If they do spin then the hubs are unlocked then they are true,y unlocked. If not they will need to be either pulled, cleaned and reinstalled or replaced. You can check the auto locking feature the same way, switch the dash **** to 4HIGH and see with the hubs set to AUTO if the axles are now locked ans unable to spin by reaching behind the tires.
Thanks. I tried both ways last night. Just by looks, the shafts were spinning real fast in four wheel drive, but in 2 wheel drive they were spinning as well, but noticeably slower. I was thinking it was just dragging slightly, but wanted to make sure there wasn't anything crazy like a one way bearing somewhere in the driveline. I'll check if they spin free tonight.
All mine are 2000 SO I may not be of any help either, BUT the only light I know of is in the dash cluster. No lights in 2WD then 4X4 light for 4x4 high AS well as 4X4 LOW when in low.....
