I figure it is best to create a new topic for this. I wanted to ask if anyone here uses a coolant filter?
I have seen the Gano brand filters that is in sizes for heater hoses up to radiator hoses. I also found one on ebay while back that I can find anymore that had a clean out lid and a tray to lift the debris out.
I did a internet search and found this and wanted to ask what people think of this
I know I have a problem with rust and I can flush my system and in a few weeks the green coolant is brownish in color and I have been thinking of installing one of theses filters in my heater line since I do not have a hot water valve. I also figured it would benefit me if I decide to add vinegar to my cooling system this Friday when I change my thermostat as it would allow me to catch the particles and see when its time to clean the system out again.
this Part is total Bull****t to me, a Sintermaterial Filter in the Coolingfluid can not work for a long time, and there is nothing that needs a filter!
There are special Cleaningfluids on the Market to get the Rust and Dirt out of the System.
Ive used the peak coolant system flush and i drove the truck a week with it in it. Couple weeks after i flushed again and went with coolant it turned rusty brown. Did it again and its rusty brown again. I will be flushing tonight but with cold weather i cant use the flush again as you have to run it with straight water.
if you have so mutch rust in the System it must be run only on Water for a long Time before. If you use G11 Antifreeze it also will bring the Rust our but not that fast as a flush.
If you use this filter in a rusti Coolant it will be closed and gone in one hour.

Truck has always needed to have the cooling system added to once a month with no leaks and no visible water spotting so water was added to top off vs antifreeze. I also noticed the coolant i used at work that was open was used coolant that got put back on the shelf for some reason. So i got one bottle of prestone flush and cleaner and will stop after work to get a second. Ill drain and flush as much as i can out tonight pour the two bottles in and fill wih water and try to drive it for 3 to 6 hrs by friday when i have my new motorcraft 190 thermostat coming in.
Coolant filters are pretty common on trucks, but the one in the OP appears to be on a heater hose, so of limited effectiveness.
I'd use one of these. Gano Auto Coolant Filter Company
