In NC we are not supposed to have more than 2 reverse lights. This excludes the old Grand Ams which had 4 from factory. I went with LEDs in the original location and added LED driving lights under the rear bumper.
Where are you pulling power. Are you using the trailer outlet? Also I am interested in how you did the wiring for the relay and its placement.
Now this was 10 years ago....but I'll try to recall.....
The kit came with a harness that hooked up at the battery. It also came with a three way switch. I used a different switch and installed on the steering column cover on the left side.
I seem to remember that there's a blue wire under the passenger side sill plate that I tapped for the reverse trigger. (I believe the kit had a relay for this.) This also turns on my back up camera.
I also installed a relay that is tied to the parking lights so that the B/U lights only come on with the headlights. (I just wanted it this way.....but it's not part of the kit.) If you remove the fuse panel cover/knee bolster...this relay is on the right mounted to the metal part of the dash near the ground point.
I've got a "white night" backup light that slides into my hitch, tapped into the 7-way reverse lights. each light is 55w and it throws well, I have one on my F-150 also.
I have LED's in the factory lights, they work pretty well also.
I love that 3 light set over the license plate...very cool. Wanted to do that for a long time, but installed my back-up camera there...

That's odd... I asked a buddy of mine that was a sheriff about backup lights one time here in KS and he said "the more light you have, the better"
On a side note, I saw a post awhile back where the guy put some led lights under the truck shining diagonally out to the rear... Lit up around the back tires and rear of the vehicle where the normal reverse lights don't shine on

I can take pics of whatever you'd like to see....
Thanks for the info. If I need a photo or more info I will ask you for it later on, but I need to see which way I want to go. I ordered some LED backup bulbs and will see how much that helps, then go from there.
I ordered the amazon ones mentioned earlier, received 2 boxes of HID bulbs (different styles) instead of the led. I returned those and ordered again. I received the right ones this time, or at least right looking ones. They came in a plastic bag inside a bubble envelope. Not a very impressive job there.
I finally got to put them in this afternoon and they are certainly whiter than the OEM, will see if they help on next drive.
I followed Pawnbroker's lead and bought these, very happy, thanks!

It looked to me like the box had the correct inventory sticker for the backup LED's. So there must be a big batch of them with the wrong inventory stickers in Amazon's inventory. Because I ordered them again and got the HID bulbs again. If you know a bit about Amazon, they sometimes stock the items themselves. You can see in the listing it says "Sold by Zento and Fulfilled by Amazon." There can be different experiences with different sellers. Usually I find the ones fulfilled by Amazon to be ok. In this case however, you need to chose one of the alternative sellers under "other sellers". I ordered them again and this time chose "Basatne" as the seller and got the right ones! $8.90 with free shipping (not prime).
Finally had a chance to use them at night, other than being whiter which gives some brightness, in my case they are marginally better than stock at best for distance and overall visibility when backing up.
The stories here seemed to read better than the results I'm seeing but they are certainly going to be easier for someone to see me backing up so for that much they are worth the $10 I paid.
When I can swing it, I'll augment with some additional lights probably switch activated.
I don't tow often enough to worry about using the outlet. So, I plan to wire up this blank 7 blade plug to use the power from the reverse and constant, and use the ground. These wires will go to the 3 way switch so I can turn this light system off, or on, or when only in reverse. There are already 2 holes under in the towing frame (proper term?) for mounting the lights, and a spot to place the switch. Anyone with more experience with tinkering see a problem with my idea and parts listed?
