There are no limits on lumens for backup lamps in Texas. I don't know about other states, but I have never heard of this "limit on lumens" in 17 years of writing tickets
I use the same kind, only square typein my ex, and work vans
You can see them in the Excursion snow pics....but I mounted a set of PIAA back up lights under the trailer hitch...didn't have to drill a single hole. I wired them with a relay so they only come on when in reverse and the headlights are on. There's also a three way switch that allows me to turn them on by themselves to better see hooking up the trailer, etc...
Well I guess I won't be getting the ones from Amazon, got this email; Anyone else get the email who ordered??

Not sure what you had in mind without spending money.
All I can think of is check voltage at the bulb. If low voltage fix the issue but even that is likely to cost some money.
Backup lights like all of your exterior lighting is regulated by law. If I recall back up lights are limited to 260 lumens or somewhere in that area. LED backup lights are not an upgrade to actual light output, they are an upgrade to longevity and cost significantly more money.
well..no. my LED projector backup light bulbs that went right in the factory housings are significantly brighter than stock. stock didnt even shine on the ground, these light up all around me
) and ordered 2, when they showed up I went whoops only needed one.
Then I opened the box and low and behold, they sent two different types of xenon HID bulbs... I did think about selling them as I could've made at least $90 on them but have setup the return instead. Damn my guilty side.
Hopefully they will send the right ones this time. I'm thinking a set of switched lights would be handy back there for trailer hook up.
